Sheriff’s Deputy to Be Arraigned in Rape

A 41-year-old Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy is scheduled to be arraigned today for allegedly raping a Calabasas woman while on duty, officials said.

Deputy Harris Mintz, a 10-year department veteran, surrendered to deputies Tuesday at the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, where he was most recently assigned.

He was booked on suspicion of rape at the Men’s Central Jail and held without bail, said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Gabe Ramirez.

The alleged sexual assault occurred Dec. 22, at the woman’s home in the Calabasas area while Mintz was working out of the Lost Hills station, deputies said.

Mintz was relieved of duty after the incident, and an investigation was initiated by the department’s internal criminal investigations bureau. The 11-month probe resulted in Tuesday’s arrest, said officials, who would not discuss details.

“We really can’t talk about the case today,” said Sgt. Cathy Renner.

Lt. Greg Sabalone of the Lost Hills station said the arrest had not caused much talk at the station.

“People come and go in this business all the time,” he said. “They’re transferred in and out. Sometimes you don’t even know them,” he said. “I had very little contact with him.”
