Stoudamire Keys Upset of Lakers

Damon Stoudamire collected his second career triple-double, scoring 21 points with 10 assists and 10 rebounds Friday to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 93-92 victory over the Lakers.

Stoudamire pulled up and nailed a 3-point shot for a 93-83 lead with 1:53 to play before the Lakers, on three field goals by Shaquille O’Neal one by Eddie Jones and a 3-point shot by Byron Scott with 24 seconds to play, cut the lead to 93-92.

Forced to foul, the Lakers sent rookie Marcus Camby to the line with 12 seconds left. Camby missed both attempts to set up one last attempt for the Lakers, but they failed to get the attention of the referees and didn’t call a timeout until about 10 seconds had run off the clock, leaving only 2.2 seconds to get off the last shot.

Jones tried to inbound to O’Neal under the basket, but the ball was deflected to the baseline. O’Neal sent up a wild shot at the buzzer that missed badly.

Walt Williams scored 21 points for the Raptors, who won their second consecutive home game after losing the first two games of the season. Camby scored 15 points and had five rebounds off the bench.

O’Neal, who had a team-high 10 rebounds, and Jones led the Lakers with 25 points apiece. The Lakers have lost two in a row after opening the season with consecutive three wins.

Nick Van Exel shot only 1-for-14 from the field and the Lakers shot a mere 38.6 percent as a team.

It was all Toronto in the first half, with Stoudamire leading the way with 14 points to send the Raptors to the dressing room up, 59-47.
