A Riverside man was killed Tuesday on the Costa Mesa Freeway when a metal bar fell from a truck and crashed through his car’s front window, authorities said.
The victim, identified as Rodney Lien, 39, was driving north just south of the Taft Avenue exit at 1:46 p.m. when the bar struck him in the head, California Highway Patrol Officer Michelle DiMaggio said. Lien was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he died at 2:32 p.m., DiMaggio said.
The truck driver kept going.
Highway Patrol officials are asking anyone who saw the incident or a truck in the area to call the CHP at (714) 567-6000.
