17-Year-Old Driver Slain in Santa Ana
A gunman shot and killed a 17-year-old male who was driving down 5th Street early Sunday.
Rodrigo Ortiz, accompanied by his father and uncle, was headed east near Raitt Street about 1 a.m. when he was hit in the head by one of several shots fired through the rear window of his car.
Ortiz managed to turn south on Raitt Street before crashing into a fence. He died later at UCI Medical Center.
Neither his father nor his uncle was injured.
The motive for the shooting is unknown and the gunman hasn’t been identified, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Jeff Owens said Sunday.
