Council to Review Kadota Fig Area Plan

A controversial development plan for Simi Valley’s semi-rural Kadota Fig neighborhood comes before the City Council tonight for another public hearing.

City planners have been working on a blueprint that would allow landowners to develop the dozens of oddly-shaped parcels of land in a 92-acre swath of Kadota Fig without creating a logistical nightmare for the neighborhood’s residents.

“If they each develop separately, it’s going to be such a hodgepodge quilt mix that it will never look right,” Councilwoman Sandi Webb said. “But it’s also very difficult legally for us to say, ‘You can’t do anything unless you go and get your neighbors to all go in together and put together the project.’ ”

The specific plan has been through several revisions, one of which allowed 478 homes, and another 378.

The current version proposes allowing construction of 448 housing units, ranging from stand-alone houses on half-acre lots to high-density apartment buildings for senior citizens.
