Gay Agency Sponsors Holiday Parade Float

For the first time, a float celebrating gay and lesbian families will participate in the 65th annual Hollywood Christmas Parade on Dec. 1.
The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, a nonprofit social service agency, is sponsoring the float to promote the public image of gay and lesbians celebrating the holidays, said Jim Key, a center spokesman. The float also commemorates the agency’s 25th anniversary.
“It’s important for us to show gay and lesbian families as well as heterosexual families at these holiday events,” Key said.
Actor Dan Butler, an openly gay actor who portrays the character Bulldog on the television show Frasier, and his partner Richard Waterhouse will ride the float, which is still being designed.
The parade, organized by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, begins at 6 p.m. at Sunset Boulevard and Van Ness Avenue.
