Suspected Carjacker Slain by Police
One suspected carjacker was shot to death by police Wednesday and another was wounded after a car chase through the streets of Santa Monica, authorities said.
The names of the suspects were not immediately released.
Two men robbed a business on Lincoln Boulevard and then fled on foot, said Sgt. Gary Gallinot. The suspects then shot a man at a carwash after an attempted carjacking, Gallinot said. Neither his name nor condition was released. The suspects fled on foot again, carjacked an automobile and sped away.
“The suspects encountered a police vehicle and opened fire and hit the vehicle,” Gallinot said. “They encountered another police vehicle and again opened fire. Police pursued the suspects, who lost control of their car and crashed.”
The suspects again fired at police, Gallinot said. Police returned the gunfire, killing one suspect and wounding another, who was taken to a hospital. His condition was unknown.
