Long Beach Probe Ends
An internal Long Beach State investigation into rules violations in its men’s basketball program has concluded, and the Big West Conference and NCAA have accepted Long Beach’s corrective actions, the school announced Wednesday.
The inquiry determined that two “inadvertent, secondary violations” occurred during the summer of 1995 when the Century Club, a Long Beach-based sports booster organization, helped pay the summer-league entry fees for current Long Beach players D’Cean Bryant, James Cotton, Tommie Davis and Marcus Johnson.
This violates rules concerning “extra benefits” to athletes. The players will remain eligible by reimbursing the Century Club.
