CSUN Grabs Piece of Pac-10

Cal State Northridge, Fresno State and seven Pacific 10 Conference schools have agreed in principle to compete in a series of double-dual track and field meets during the 1998-2000 seasons.

The Pac-10 Triad will include Northridge, Arizona and Arizona State in the Southern region, Cal, Stanford and Fresno State in the Central region and Oregon, Washington and Washington State in the Northern region.

Each school will compete in two double-dual meets a season against teams from other regions and is entitled to play host to two of six meets over the three-year span.

“I think this is a tremendous break for us and it should add a big boost to our recruiting,” Northridge Coach Don Strametz said.

Vertical game: Long jumper Pia McAllister of Concord Clayton Valley High and pole vaulter Maggie O’Malley of Atascadero have signed letters of intent with Northridge.

Ramirez injured: Sherry Ramirez, a 6-foot-2 junior center on the Northridge women’s basketball team, will miss the season because of a torn left anterior cruciate ligament she suffered in an exhibition game Monday.

Softball signing: Ventura High outfielder Amanda Menez has signed with Fresno State.

Earning stripes: Right-handed pitcher Bryan Corey, who played at Thousand Oaks High and Pierce College, has been added to the Detroit Tigers’ 40-man roster.
