Police Kill Suspect After 4-Hour Standoff
A tense standoff that lasted more than four hours ended Saturday night when police shot and killed a robbery suspect who officers said had taken a South-Central Los Angeles liquor store operator hostage and was threatening to set fire to the store.
The identity of the suspect was not released. A police spokesman said the attempted robbery occurred about 3 p.m. at Frank’s Liquor at 8720 S. Western Ave. The robber took two suspects hostage, but one escaped, the spokesman said.
A police sharpshooter fired once when the suspect appeared as though he was going to set off a Molotov cocktail, police said.
