Pacific Christian to Host Men’s Basketball Tournament

Pacific Christian is hosting a men’s basketball tournament Friday and Saturday at Fullerton College.

On Friday, Chapman will play La Verne at 7 p.m. and Pacific Christian will play Northwestern (Iowa) at 9. Saturday, the losers will play at 7 p.m. and the winners at 9.

Concordia hosts St. Thomas (Minn.) Saturday in a 7:30 game.

Saturday in women’s basketball, Chapman hosts La Verne (5:30 p.m.), Pacific Christian plays Mills at Fullerton College (5 p.m.) and Southern California College hosts George Fox College (7:30).

Football honors: Four Chapman players were named regional Academic All-Americans: junior defensive lineman Jim Ahern (business administration, 3.57 grade-point average), junior defensive back Atlas Helaire (psychology, 3.36), junior center Matt Hertzler (exercise physiology, 3.78) and sophomore linebacker Jason Traut (accounting, 3.63).

GSAC honors: Four athletes from Southern California College and three from Concordia were named to the Golden State Athletic Conference fall sports academic all-conference teams.

Vanguards named were junior Caren Anderson (cross-country, liberal studies, 3.82 GPA), senior Brad Bentley (soccer, marketing, 3.80), senior Karajean Stephenson (volleyball, math, 3.97) and junior Christina Fox (volleyball, sociology, 3.93).

The Eagles named were all on the cross-country team: senior Suzanna Lau (psychology, 3.97), post-graduate Amy Bonacorsi (teacher education, 3.90) and junior Denise Williams (biology, 3.55).
