Domestic Violence Hotline Now Working
Women across Orange County are now able to call a toll-free hotline for domestic violence counseling and information about emergency shelters.
The Safe Way Out hotline began operations this week and provides information in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Korean and Chinese. The number is (800) 978-3600.
The hotline was created by USC student Shana deFries of San Juan Capistrano while she was working as an intern for Supervisor William G. Steiner. The service is being funded by a $175,000 donation from Shell Oil Co.
Steiner and Dist. Atty. Michael R. Capizzi unveiled the service at a ceremony Wednesday morning. “I think there is a significant benefit to victims of domestic violence,” Capizzi said. “It provides them with an additional area for help.”
Steiner said: “This is a valuable service because it puts women in touch with a real voice and not an answering machine.”
