Pacoima Man Booked in Fatal Hit-and-Run
A Pacoima man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident where he allegedly hit an elderly woman, police said.
Rafaela Saavedra, 70, was struck as she was walking near the intersection of Shirley Avenue and Sherman Way in Reseda at about 7 p.m. Sunday. Saavedra, who died at the scene, had just gotten off a bus and was on her way home from church, according to Valley Traffic Division Officer Bill Mulvhill.
The unidentified driver was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run for refusing to stop at the scene of the accident, police said. Police were able to track the man because witnesses wrote down his license plate number and another driver followed the man home.
The man is being held at Van Nuys Jail.
