Northridge’s Baldwin Considered for Two Football Coaching Jobs

Share

Cal State Northridge football Coach Dave Baldwin, who guided the Matadors to a 7-4 record and a third-place finish in the Big Sky Conference, was interviewed Monday in Las Cruces, N.M., for the coaching vacancy at New Mexico State.

Baldwin said he also interviewed last Tuesday for the job at San Jose State, where he was an assistant coach in the mid-1980s.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said. “I think I’m a serious candidate [for both jobs].”

Baldwin, who is not under contract to coach at Northridge next year, had planned to meet with Athletic Director Paul Bubb last week to discuss a contract, but those talks were delayed because of the interviews.

Baldwin engineered a remarkable turnaround in his second season at Northridge, bringing the Matadors from a 2-8 season to the cusp of the Division I-AA top 25.
