Picabo Street, the two-time World Cup downhill champion from Sun Valley, Idaho, tore ligaments and cartilage in her left knee in a training crash and will require season-ending surgery.

Dr. Richard Steadman said surgery will be postponed “until at least next week, because the swelling is so bad. I don’t expect her to be back on snow for at least six months.”

Soccer’s world governing body is considering a proposal to pull the men’s game out of the Olympics and set up an under-23 world championship.

The issue goes before FIFA’s executive committee meeting Saturday in Barcelona and could eventually wipe the men’s game from the Olympic program.
