Candlelight Vigil to Honor Victims

Oxnard residents will hold a second annual candlelight vigil Saturday night in honor of young people who have died in gang-related violence.
The vigil, scheduled from 4:30 to 6 p.m., will take place at Oxnard Plaza Park, in the 300 block of West 5th Street.
Oxnard has recorded 17 homicides this year, contrasted with 11 last year.
The vigil is organized by local activist groups that formed in response to the violence--Community for Unity, Save Our Sons and the Faith Connection.
“My son was shot and murdered last year and this is how this came about,” said Save Our Sons founder Suzie Torres.
“I needed to turn my anger into positive energy. We are really concerned with the violence in our community. We are just showing the community that we do care.”
