Irish aye: Notre Dame’s Cindy Daws, a Louisville High graduate, will be awarded the Hermann Award as the nation’s top women’s college soccer player, Saturday in Richmond, Va.
Daws, a senior midfielder, led the Irish (24-2) to the national title match and was their leading scorer with 26 goals and 20 assists.
Her overtime goal last year in the final earned Notre Dame its first national title.
Daws is Notre Dame’s career leader with 61 goals, 67 assists and 189 points. She was second in balloting for the Hermann Award last season.
Monarchy: Valley College is ranked third in a final national junior college football poll.
The Monarchs (10-1) were ranked behind Blinn (12-0)) of Texas and Saddleback (11-0), which tied for the top spot.
Saddleback was top-ranked in California, with Valley No. 2. Moorpark finished 18th.
