Ventura Takes Title From Valley, 85-72

Adria Sneed scored 21 points and Ventura College rolled past Valley, 85-72, on Saturday night to win the championship of the Valley tournament.

Cindi Jensen had 20 points and Amirah Leonard added 12 for the Pirates (10-1).

Jacque Tennies had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Valley (7-5).

Mt. San Antonio 76, Moorpark 69--Trisha Palmquist scored 32 points as the Raiders (5-4) lost the third-place game of the Valley tournament.

Dina Mayeda scored 21 points for Mt. San Antonio (6-3).

San Jose State 63, CS Northridge 59--The Matadors and Spartans were nearly even except for the free-throw department at San Jose.

San Jose State (2-5) made 26 of 37 shots from the line. Northridge made 12 of 22.

Forward Bambi Bowling had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Matadors (1-4), while Tammie Mills added 10 points and five assists.

The Master’s 83, Concordia 76--Laura Fralich scored 19 points for the Mustangs in an overtime victory at Newhall.

Elizabeth Hansell and Kim De Vries each added 14 points.

MENS’ BASKETBALL

Canyons 94, Cal Lutheran JV 83--Wedley Polynice scored 19 points for the Cougars (4-6) in the consolation final of the Mid State tournament.

Jeff Sand scored 30 for the Cal Lutheran junior varsity.

Valley 85, Oxnard 74--Pierre Elize scored 19 points and Leon Brisport had 18 and 10 rebounds as the Monarchs took third place in the Santa Barbara tournament.

Oke Agoke of Valley made the all-tournament team.

The Master’s 88, California Baptist 73--Mike Penberthy scored 27 points for the Mustangs (6-3) at California Baptist.

Leo Gorauskas added 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Reggie Robinson saw his first action for Master’s after missing two games with a back injury. He had six points and three assists.

Bakersfield 56, Moorpark 55--Anthony McCurtis had 23 points as the Raiders (6-4) fell at Bakersfield (6-4).

Cal Lutheran 105, Pacific Christian 71--Brian Capella scored 18 points and Mike Salser added 16 in at Cal Lutheran.

The Kingsmen are 5-0.
