Rose Parade Officials, Pasadena Agree on New 25-Year Contract

After three years of contract talks rooted in an intense debate over the benefits afforded the Tournament of Roses by the city of Pasadena, the City Council and parade officials have agreed on a new contract that will provide an extra $600,000 annually to the municipality for the Rose Parade, Rose Bowl game and use of city-owned facilities.

Pasadena City Manager Philip Hawkey said the 25-year contract approved unanimously by the council late Monday night makes the relationship more like that of a landlord and a tenant than the traditional partnership.

Tournament Executive Director Jack French said the contract provides a better relationship with the city and makes what is owed by the tournament clearly defined.
