Share

Two men suffered moderate injuries when their car overturned Sunday on Somis Road south of Somis.

Authorities said the accident occurred at 6:18 p.m. as the pair were heading south through a 40-mph curve.

The 36-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, and the car left the roadway, authorities said. The vehicle sustained major damage, but both the driver and his 44-year-old passenger were able to get out of the car on their own.

Witnesses told authorities that the passenger tried to flee the scene into a nearby field. Bystanders detained him until California Highway Patrol officers arrived.

Both men were treated at the scene for cuts to the face and head, and both complained of neck and back pain. They were transported to St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo and were listed in stable condition Sunday night.

The names of the men were not released.

Witnesses said they smelled alcohol at the crash scene. A CHP spokesman in Ventura said an arrest was likely.
