Sergei Makarov, who played on the famed KLM line in the Soviet Union, was released by the Dallas Stars after a four-game comeback.

Makarov, 38, had no points with the Stars, who signed him as a free agent Oct. 18. The former Calgary and San Jose player made his name in the Soviet Union as a linemate of Vladimir Krutov and Igor Larionov, now with Detroit.

Makarov cleared waivers and is a free agent, the Stars said.

The Stars also sent defenseman Dan Keczmer and forward Marc Labelle to Michigan of the IHL and recalled defenseman Sergey Gusev and goaltender Roman Turek from Michigan.

The NHL suspended San Jose defenseman Greg Hawgood for two games and fined him $1,000 for slashing Boris Mironov of the Edmonton Oilers.

Hawgood was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for a two-handed slash to Mironov’s leg in the third period of a game Saturday.
