King update--After defeating Hartford, 5-3, at the Forum on Thursday, the Kings moved within two points of the final Western Conference playoff spot. Vladimir Tsyplakov, who hadn’t scored a goal since Jan. 7, scored twice against the Whalers as the Kings ended a five-game winless streak.

Blackhawk update--The Blackhawks, 4-9-5 in the last 18 games, should be rested. They last played Monday when they ended a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory against the New York Rangers. The Blackhawks made a commitment to goalie Jeff Hackett last week when they traded disgruntled veteran Ed Belfour to San Jose. Tony Amonte, who leads the team with 31 goals and 50 points, has six goals in three games against the Kings.
