FULLERTON — Cal State Fullerton basketball player John Williams is hopeful he can resume playing before the regular season ends and that he can make up for lost time in the Big West postseason tournament.
Williams’ fractured right wrist has been in a cast for a week, and he probably will be sidelined three more weeks.
“I’m really pointing for the tournament now,” Williams said. “It’s disappointing for this to happen during my senior year, but you just have to go on and do the best you can.”
If Williams is out no more than four weeks, as expected, he might have a chance to return for the final two regular-season games, Feb. 27 against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and March 1 against UC Santa Barbara. Both games are at home.
The postseason tournament will be in Reno the following week. The top four teams in each division qualify, although Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is ineligible this season.
Williams was the Big West’s leading scorer in conference games when he was injured.
