City Kitty Sought for Dog Bags

Share

While the folks on Balboa Island say they like the “doggie walk bag” dispensers the city installed, they wish the city would help pay for the bags, Councilman John E. Noyes said.

Noyes, a Balboa Island resident, said he will propose Monday that the city use part of the dog license fees it collects to refill the dispensers.

“I think it is a really nice service to people, but I think the city should help pay for the bags,” Noyes said.

In 1994, the city installed about 15 dispensers around the city, six of them on Balboa Island, and agreed to pay part of the cost of keeping them filled.

But the city cut its $1,500 annual donation to the project in 1995 to save money. Two homeowners associations have since been paying for them.

The council also will begin taking public comments Monday on its plan to revitalize the Balboa Peninsula.

Since a large number of residents is expected to speak on the issue, the meeting will convene at 4 p.m. at City Hall, 3300 W. Newport Blvd. Information: (714) 644-3017.
