Parmenter Captures National Title

Jennifer Parmenter of Granada Hills won her sixth national championship and set a pool record with a first-place finish in the 400-meter individual medley at the Phillips 66 National Swimming Championships on Friday night in Buffalo, N.Y.

Parmenter, a sophomore at L.A. Baptist High, timed 4:43.72, more than three seconds faster than second-place finisher Maddy Crippen of Philadelphia.

Parmenter won two titles at the 1995 winter nationals and earned three more last summer.

The Rose Bowl Aquatics team, which includes Parmenter and Heather Boylan of Saugus, placed sixth in the 400 freestyle relay.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Royal 2, Camarillo 0--Dan Wilson and Brandon Kay each scored goals for the Highlanders (21-5-1, 12-2), who won the Marmonte League championship in the match at Camarillo (15-5-3, 8-4-2).

Thousand Oaks 1, Westlake 0--Diego Schoeffer scored with 10 minutes remaining in the Marmonte League match.

Thousand Oaks (13-9, 8-6) finished tied for fourth place with Newbury Park.

Simi Valley 7, Channel Islands 2--John Gonzalez scored four goals in a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley (20-4-3, 10-2-2).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Birmingham 7, Verdugo Hills 0--Krissy Oakes scored her 33rd, 34th and 35th goals of the seasonin a West Valley League match at Birmingham (12-4-1, 7-2-1).

The win, coupled with Kennedy’s victory over Cleveland, gave Birmingham the league title.

Kennedy 3, Cleveland 2--Erica Espinoza’s goal at the 60th minute lifted the Golden Cougars (12-5, 7-3) in a West Valley League match at Kennedy.

Chatsworth 4, San Pedro 1-- Jackie Fodor scored four goals in a Coastal/Valley Conference match at Chatsworth (13-1, 8-0).

Hart 3, Saugus 0--Laura Qualls scored all of the goals in a Foothill League match at Hart (19-1-2, 10-0).

Simi Valley 2, Channel Islands 0--Anna Wolleck scored both goals and the Pioneers (16-5-3, 10-2-2) clinched the Marmonte League championship at Channel Islands.

Thousand Oaks 2, Westlake 0--Molly Bauer and Lauren Mercaldo scored in the second overtime to give the Lancers (12-7-2, 9-4-1) second place in the Marmonte League.
