Gusman Leads Fullerton in Two Baseball Victories

Dan Gusman was four for four with three runs batted in to lead Fullerton to a 12-1 victory over Imperial Valley Saturday in pool play of the Victor Valley tournament.

Curt Fraund also had three RBIs for the Hornets (9-3).

Bobby Sunderland (2-0) pitched a four-hitter for Fullerton.

Gusman hit a solo home run in Fullerton’s earlier 7-5 victory over tournament host Victor Valley. Erick Gomez and Keith Jones each had two hits and two RBIs in the game. Gusman and Brian Logan each had two RBIs.

In the Casey Stengel baseball tournament:

Rancho Santiago 10, Cabrillo 4--Kevin Duck hit his fourth home run of the season and sophomore Tim Larsen picked up his third victory for Rancho Santiago (10-1). In an earlier game, Jeff Bowman got his third victory for Rancho Santiago and Kevin Duck had a double as the Dons defeated Mendocino, 10-1.

Saddleback 6, Mendocino 2--Nick Punto was two for two with two RBIs in a pool play victory for Saddleback (10-0). Punto also had four hits and five runs scored in a 17-2 victory over Cabrillo.

Saddleback’s Kyle Kane had three hits and two RBIs against Cabrillo.

In the Cypress-Coast baseball classic:

Cypress 8, Sequoias 1--Greg Jacobs and Nahum Renteria each had a double for Cypress (12-2).

Sequoias 9, Orange Coast 8--Sequoias scored three times with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Pinch-runner Quinn Uzelman scored the deciding run from second on an infield single by Brian Little.

Southwestern 7, Orange Coast 2--Southwestern left-hander Jesus Moreno gave up one hit over the final six innings and his team scored six runs in the eighth.

Treasure Valley (Ore.) 13, Golden West 11--Keith Mora gave up two runs in the ninth as Golden West (7-4) lost in the final inning for the second consecutive time.

Golden West was ahead, 4-0, in an earlier game against College of the Canyons, but gave up five runs in the ninth.

In the Cypress softball tournament:

Cypress 11, Ventura 2--Autumn Gwinner had a solo home run in the first and a two-run homer in the fourth for Cypress. She went four for four and drove in four runs.

Long Beach 3, Cypress 1--Jen Gall’s home run in the third tied it for Long Beach. Marissa Torrez and Jennifer Stark drove in runs to take the lead.
