New Zealand Memory

Your story on Christchurch, New Zealand (“The English Penchant,” Feb. 2), reminded me of our stay in that pretty city. Seeing a group of young American men at the hotel, we asked if they were just down from the States.

“No,” one said, “we’re just up from the South Pole. We’re in the Air Force, bringing a C-130 up for regular maintenance.”

Now that’s really “Down Under.”
