Taking Pride in Heroes
Costa Mesa City Councilwoman Libby Cowan will host the fourth annual Take Pride Awards Celebration, which honors Orange County gay and lesbian achievements.
Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove), professional golfer Muffin Spencer-Devlin and writer Mel White are expected to make appearances at the event, set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Disneyland Pacific Hotel in Anaheim.
The Federation, an umbrella organization for more than 40 lesbian, gay and AIDS support groups countywide, is sponsoring the event. Organizers said they expect more than 300 people to attend.
Two dozen awards will be given to outstanding volunteers, health care programs and businesses.
“The event is for the unsung heroes,” organizer Douglas Fielding said. “The headliners are there to honor the award recipients.”
The hotel is at 1150 W. Cerritos Ave. in Anaheim. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 at the door and $9 in advance.
