No Matter How It’s Spelled, Off-Season Is Music to Him

There are hitters whose goal is to bat .300 and pitchers striving for ERAs of 2.00.

And what is left-handed reliever Scott Radinsky’s goal?

“To write a couple of songs and go home with a record,” said Radinsky, who may be the only man in Vero Beach, Fla., with a temporary recording studio in his apartment.

Radinsky spent his off-season on tour with his punk rock band, Pulley. The band played dates on the West Coast, Canada and Europe before crowds ranging from 150 to 1,600 people.

“It was awesome,” said Radinsky, the lead singer. “To have 1,500 kids go nuts is something I can’t even describe in words. It’s such a great feeling to play music for people and have them appreciate it.”

If nothing else, Radinsky said, the music industry knows how to spell his name. When he arrived in camp, his locker nameplate said, “Radinski.” He took it down, telling the clubhouse people it was misspelled. It was replaced by one that said, “Radinksy.”

Radinsky took that down, too, and now his nameplate simply reads, “Scott Rad.”

Apparently not everyone realizes there is not just one Bill Russell in the sports world.

The Dodger manager was sent a letter with a request to autograph his playing card.

It turned out to be a playing card of former Boston Celtic star and basketball hall of famer Bill Russell.

Veteran pitcher Mike Harkey again signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers.
