The World Boxing Federation lightweight title again will be on the line when Juan Lazcano and Danny Lujan try to finish what they started in a 12-round main event tonight at the Reseda Country Club.

Lazcano (14-1-1, 10 knockouts) and Lujan (11-3-2, six KOs) fought to a 12-round majority draw at the Country Club in December. The title remains vacant.

In a bout in which both fighters gave as good as they got, Lujan floored Lazcano in the sixth round, and Lazcano opened cuts below Lujan’s eyes. Lazcano was penalized one point for hitting after the bell in the ninth round.

Two judges scored the fight, 113-113. A third favored Lujan, 115-111.

“The last fight, I didn’t fight with intelligence, it was just guts and heart,” said Lazcano, 21, a resident of El Paso and former Texas Golden Gloves champion. “I have the same guts and heart, but I have brains now.”

Lujan, 24, from Salinas, felt he won the first fight and predicted he will win decisively tonight.

“Boxing did me good last time, I’ll just keep at it and not let him push me,” Lujan said.

The bout is believed to be the first rematch to take place at the Country Club, which began featuring boxing in the early 1980s.

“I’ve never had a rematch here, certainly not for a main event,” promoter Peter Broudy said. “And I don’t think we’ve ever had a 12-round fight that has ended in a draw.

“It was one of the best fights we ever had at the Country Club. Whenever this kind of thing happens, where both guys feel they won, it’s a natural.”

The undercard includes junior welterweight Effi Schneider and featherweight Arnuflo Bravo, fighters under trainer Joe Goossen of North Hollywood.
