A 21-year-old Oxnard man was listed in fair condition Friday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after being shot early Friday by a bar security guard, authorities said.

Braulio Padilla had gotten into a fight just after midnight at La Michoacana II Bar at Harrison Avenue and 1st Street in Oxnard, and 40-year-old security guard Arnolfo Juarez tried to break it up, Sgt. Bernhard Schmalhofer said.

“[Juarez] tried to stop it and he got stabbed,” Schmalhofer said.

Padilla fled the scene. Juarez, however, got his gun and drove through the area looking for Padilla. When Juarez found Padilla, he shot him, police said.

Padilla was taken to St. John’s emergency room for treatment of his gunshot wound.

Juarez is being held in the Ventura County Jail. He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday on charges of assault with deadly weapon, a jail spokeswoman said. His bail is set at $20,000.
