SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A 37-year-old man was killed when his pickup truck rolled on the Antelope Valley Freeway early Friday morning, throwing him into oncoming traffic, the California Highway Patrol said.

Anthony Foster, a Palmdale construction worker, was speeding as he entered the northbound onramp at Palmdale Boulevard at about 2:20 a.m. He failed to negotiate the turn and was ejected after his pickup truck flipped several times, CHP Officer John Vega said.

Foster, who according to CHP officers had been drinking with friends earlier in the evening, was thrown onto the southbound side of the freeway. There he was hit by a Honda Civic traveling between 65 and 70 mph and a Nissan truck, officers said.

Vega said Foster’s body became lodged underneath the truck and was dragged for 350 feet. The truck’s driver, Mark Fimbres, was taken into custody on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter. No other arrests were made.

An autopsy will attempt to determine whether Foster died before or after he was struck by the car and the truck, officers said.
