Sobek’s Home Run Sparks Dons Past Fullerton

Erik Sobek hit a three-run home run with two outs to cap a five-run second inning as Rancho Santiago, ranked No. 1 in the nation, defeated visiting Fullerton, 11-7, in Orange Empire Conference baseball Tuesday.

Sobek also had a double and four runs batted in and teammate Joe Secoda was three for four with an RBI. Rancho Santiago (14-1-1, 2-0) scored all 11 of its runs in the first three innings.

Riverside 12, Orange Coast 2--Cody Trask pitched a complete game and Jason Bowring hit a three-run home run to lead Riverside, which improves to 16-0, 1-0.

Trask allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out eight to improve to 3-0.

Saddleback 11, Golden West 3--Johnny Nguyen went three for five and drove in two runs and Ryan Poe gave up five hits over six innings as the Gauchos won their 14th consecutive game.

Golden West scored twice in the first inning to take a 2-1 lead, but Saddleback scored twice in the third and added three in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Poe allowed two runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one, to improve to 3-0. Nick Punto and Greg Ferrell each went two for four.

In the Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Golden West 6, Saddleback 3--Alex Brown and Mike Dannenhold both swept in singles and then paired up to win the deciding point in doubles, 7-5,4-6, 6-0, for Golden West (6-2, 2-1).

This was the first time in nine years Golden West has beaten Saddleback (5-2, 2-1), the defending conference champions.
