Man Surrenders to Police After Hit-Run Accident
A Bakersfield man was booked into Ventura County Jail on a felony hit-and-run charge following a spectacular car crash that sent one woman to the hospital Sunday afternoon in Ventura, according to police.
Ventura Police Sgt. Jim Burt said two cars collided at Ashwood Avenue and Loma Vista Road about 2:20 p.m. The driver of one of the cars, 21-year-old Ghada Mitro Hishmeh of Ventura, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, he said. She was treated and released.
The second car burst into flames and the driver ran from the scene, according to Burt.
Later that afternoon, 23-year-old Romel Devon Green turned himself in at the Ventura police station, identified himself as the driver and was taken into custody, Burt said.
Green was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail Sunday night, a jail spokesman said.
