Woman Shot to Death; Armed Man Surrenders

A woman who authorities said appeared to be pregnant was shot and killed in Pico Rivera by a man who briefly holed up in a house before surrendering to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday, investigators said.

Deputies responded to a report of an armed man in the 7500 block of Cravell Avenue at 8:40 a.m., and heard several gunshots as they pulled up to the house, a department spokesman said.

They called in the sheriff’s SWAT team, but as the squad was setting up outside the house, the suspect walked out, raised his hands and was arrested. SWAT officers searched the house for other suspects, but found only the body of a woman who appeared to be pregnant. She was pronounced dead at the scene, apparently from a gunshot wound, deputies said. Investigators had not yet determined the relationship between the man and the woman, whose identities were not immediately released.
