Ventura Buena Gets the Most Out of Last Shot

Karen McAleney of Ventura Buena High scored her only basket of the game on a seven-foot jump shot from the left side with 14 seconds left Wednesday to give the Bulldogs (25-2) their final points in a 51-50 victory over Santa Ana Mater Dei in a Southern Section Division I-A semifinal at Ventura High.

Buena senior center Nicole Greathouse had 18 points and 17 rebounds.

Crescenta Valley 55, J.W. North 52--Michelle Greco scored 37 points, including two free throws with 23 seconds remaining, and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Crescenta Valley to a victory over Riverside North in a Southern Section Division I-A semifinal game at Glendale Hoover High.

The Falcons (28-2) play Buena in the final Friday at the Pyramid in Long Beach.

Julia Gray scored 18 points and Sharee Sykes had 12 points and six rebounds to lead North (24-4).

Brea Olinda 52, La Puente Bishop Amat 42--Stephanie Wettlin made two free throws, added a basket that broke a 4 1/2-minute stretch without a field goal and had a steal that led to two more points as eight-time defending section champion Brea Olinda (26-3) advanced to the Division II-A finals with a 12-2 final run. Allison Box led Bishop Amat (27-4) with 13 points. Wettlin had 12 points for Brea Olinda (26-3).

Moorpark 52, Compton Dominguez 42--At Thousand Oaks High, Moorpark (25-2) outscored Dominguez, 15-4, in the fourth quarter to advance to the Division II-A championship game. Dominguez finished 24-6.

Moorpark sophomore Damaris Hinojosa led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

After a slow start, Moorpark took control in the second quarter, using a relentless full-court press. The Musketeers led, 31-21, at the half, but Dominguez moved ahead, 38-37, after three quarters.

Moorpark point guard Tracey Milburn finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds despite foul trouble.
