Baseball: Canyon, the county and nation’s top-ranked baseball team, begins its season Friday at La Mirada as one of 16 area teams playing in the Loara tournament. Capistrano Valley, Mater Dei, Calvary Chapel and Esperanza will play Friday in the Newport Elks tournament.
Softball: The season starts Friday when the Fullerton and Costa Mesa tournaments begin. The Brea Olinda, Cypress and Downey tournaments begin the next day.
