A trip to San Jose for the...

A trip to San Jose for the state tournament beginning Thursday is at stake tonight for five junior college basketball teams from the region.

In women’s action, Ventura, the state’s top-ranked team, plays host to Compton, and second-ranked Canyons plays host to Valley. In men’s games, Valley plays at top-ranked L.A. City and second-ranked Antelope Valley plays host to Chaffey. All games start at 7 p.m.

Earlier today, softball fans can watch an Olympic gold medalist--UCLA freshman pitcher Christa Williams--in action when the No. 3-ranked Bruins (20-4) play at No. 18 Cal State Northridge (8-5-2) in a nonconference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
