San Jose Independence finished second with 74, followed by Shingle Springs Ponderosa with 73 1/2.

In front of an announced 7,000, Calvary Chapel put the icing on the cake in the championship round.

Senior Joe Calavitta won his second consecutive state title against Kirk Moore of Bakersfield Foothill. Ty Wilcox had little difficulty in defending his title, winning his 160-pound match against Telly Sanders of Clovis Buchanan, 12-3. Calvary Chapel’s other finalist, Burt Pierson, lost to defending state champion Carlos Blanco of Riverside Canyon Springs.
