St. Francis Takes Five and Wins

St. Francis High scored five runs in the fifth inning and defeated Crescenta Valley, 9-7, in a nonleague baseball game Wednesday night at Brookside Park in Pasadena.

The Falcons scored seven runs in the top of the fifth against four St. Francis pitchers to take a 7-4 lead but made two errors in the bottom of the fifth.

Matt Blaney had three hits, including a double and a triple for St. Francis. He took the victory by getting the final out in the top of the fifth.

In other baseball games:

Paraclete 5, Desert Christian 1--Dan Parra (1-0) pitched a three-hitter and Matt Horner had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run for the Spirits (3-1) at Paraclete.

Faith Baptist 22, Masada 1--Steve Plise had two doubles and three RBIs for the Contenders (1-0) at Faith Baptist.

Jim Greer (1-0) did not give up a hit and had seven strikeouts in three innings.

Glendale 12, La Canada 3--George O’Connor pitched a seven-hitter, striking out 10, for the Dynamiters (3-0) at Glendale. O’Connor had three hits and three RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Harvard-Westlake 19, Notre Dame Academy 3--Sandra Aken had three hits and three RBIs, and Lisa Feigenbaum added three hits for the Wolverines (4-0) at Harvard-Westlake.

Corrie Roberts pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10.

Pacifica 5, Saugus 2--Toni Mascarenas and Toria Auela each had run-scoring triples in the first inning and the Mariners won a pool-play game in the Laguna Hills tournament at Aliso Park.

Amanda Freed pitched a five-hitter and had 14 strikeouts.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Eagle Rock d. Sylmar, 15-6, 15-13, 15-6--Tony Linares had 13 kills and five blocks, and Fabian Landeros had 30 assists, but the Spartans (2-1) fell at Sylmar.

Andy Rivera had 19 kills and Albert Coba had 41 assists for Eagle Rock (3-0).

Campbell Hall d. Valencia, 15-8, 15-10, 15-9--Larry Cole had 14 kills, eight digs and five blocks and Jon Drexler had 10 kills and seven digs for Campbell Hall (2-1) at Valencia.

Campbell Hall setter Tanner Ragland had 34 assists.

Bosco Tech d. St. Francis, 8-15, 0-15, 15-10, 15-4, 16-14--The Knights (2-2) blew a 13-11 lead in the fifth game at St. Francis.

Eric Alalay had 38 assists for St. Francis. Ed Stanislawski added 16 kills and eight blocks, and Jeff Bordey had 14 kills, five blocks and six aces.

Westlake d. Newbury Park, 15-8, 15-6, 13-15, 15-7--Kevin Nagler had 25 kills for the Warriors (1-1) in a Marmonte League opener at Newbury Park (0-3).

Simi Valley d. Channel Islands, 5-15, 15-5, 12-15, 15-12, 15-12--Mike Latham had 10 kills and Jon Jagard added nine kills for the Pioneers (1-1, 1-0) in a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley.

Highland d. Saugus, 15-9, 15-11, 15-10--Tom Haight had 20 kills for the Bulldogs (2-0) at Saugus (0-3).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Westlake 18, Channel Islands 0--Mike Horak, at No. 2 singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Adam Hollinger and Harry McGowan each lost only one game in three sets for the Warriors (3-0, 1-0) in a Marmonte League match.

Thousand Oaks 10, Royal 8--The doubles teams of Ron Kwon and Arvind Vasar, and Russ Martin and Mike Garback each won three sets for the Lancers (3-2, 2-0) in a Marmonte League match.

Alex Jensen swept at No. 2 singles for Royal (1-3, 0-2).

Simi Valley 11, Newbury Park 7--Freshman Jeremiah Waggoner swept his sets at No. 2 singles for the Pioneers (4-0, 1-0) in a Marmonte League match at Newbury Park (2-2, 1-1).

GOLF

Harvard-Westlake 205, Louisville 304--Andrew Fitzhugh shot a two-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors for the Wolverines (5-0, 4-0) in a Mission League match at Encino Golf Course.
