Dons’ Pitching Holding Up So Far

Don Sneddon, Rancho Santiago’s baseball coach, expressed concern about the depth of his pitching staff before the start of the Orange Empire Conference race, but no cracks have shown so far.

The Dons (22-1-1) are 9-0 in conference and have a two-game lead over Saddleback (19-2, 7-2). Rancho Santiago is unbeaten in its last 15 games with the only blemish being a 4-4 12-inning tie against Cerritos.

Rancho Santiago hosts Fullerton (14-10, 2-7) at 2 p.m. today, then hosts Riverside (19-3, 4-3) at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rancho Santiago travels to meetRiverside at noon Saturday.

The end: Orange Coast’s Dianne Pulido completed her basketball career by scoring a team-high 14 points as the South beat the North, 85-65, in the state all-star game at San Jose State Saturday.

Pulido, who averaged 20 points and seven rebounds, was the Orange Empire Conference’s most valuable player and also made the All-Southern California team.

Moving on: Four more members of the Cypress women’s soccer team have announced plans to move on to four-year colleges.

Defender Irene Morales is going to San Francisco State, defender Carrie Hurst is headed to St. Mary’s, goalkeeper Jessica Lubman is going to Southern California College and forward Erin Wright to Chico State.

Craig Nosse, the leading tackler for the Orange Coast football team, has signed with Wingate University, an NCAA Division II school in Wingate, N.C. Nosse, a defensive back, had 111 tackles.
