Golden West Holds On to Defeat Saddleback
Reliever Adam Peters struck out Lars Birkeland in the top of the ninth inning with the tying run on third to help Golden West defeat second-place Saddleback, 6-5, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at Golden West.
Jarrad Jones hit a two-run triple in the third inning and starter Cory Carr (2-5) allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight for Golden West (10-14, 2-8).
Birkeland hit his fourth home run for Saddleback (19-3, 7-3), which had 12 hits but left 13 on base.
In other conference games:
Rancho Santiago 7, Fullerton 4--Rick Gonzalez’s RBI single in the bottom the eighth broke a 4-4 tie. Gonzalez also hit a three-run homer in the first for host Rancho Santiago (24-1-1, 10-0).
Riverside 16, Orange Coast 3--Jaeme Leal had three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs for visiting Riverside (20-3, 5-3).
Orange Coast is 10-14, 3-7.
