Calabasas Moves Up but Goes Down, 10-8

Campbell Hall reversed last year’s second-round playoff loss to Calabasas with a 10-8 tennis victory Tuesday at Calabasas.

Josh Glass and James Chun improved their season record to 23-1 with a sweep at No. 1 doubles for the Vikings (8-0). Campbell Hall’s No. 2 doubles team Mike Presto and Nick Nadjarian also swept.

Freshman Nick Weiss swept at No. 1 singles for Calabasas, which defeated Campbell Hall, 10-8, in last season’s Southern Section Division IV playoffs. The Coyotes (4-3) have moved to Division III.

In other tennis matches:

St. Francis 12, Crespi 6--Jared Milmeister swept three sets but the Celts (1-3, 1-2) fell to the Golden Knights (3-3, 1-2) in a Mission League match at Crespi.

Rio Mesa 11, Dos Pueblos 7--Derrick Goldie and Juan Gonzalez swept at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, 6-3, 6-0, to help the Spartans (6-0, 3-0) take sole possession of first place in the Channel League.

Granada Hills 6, Kennedy 1--Chris Yoo upset Sonny Warda at No. 1 singles for the Highlanders (2-0, 1-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Granada Hills.

Birmingham 5, Chatsworth 2--Anthony Gabriele dropped only two games against Danny Seeman at No. 1 singles for the Braves (3-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference opener at Chatsworth (1-3).

Simi Valley 11, Oak Park 7--Keith Rekhlau and Wildon Wu swept at No. 1 doubles for the Pioneers (6-0), as did J.P. Agustin and Brian Le Toureau at No. 2 doubles in a nonleague match at Oak Park.

Joey Edelberg swept at No. 2 singles for the Eagles.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

St. Francis d. Crespi, 15-8, 17-15, 15-11--Ed Stanislawski had 20 kills and Jeff Bordey added 16 in the Golden Knights’ Mission League match at Crespi.

Eric Alalay had 48 assists for St. Francis (3-3, 1-2).

Van Nuys d. Poly, 15-10, 16-14, 15-11--Allen Chiu had 18 kills and Larry Najera had 14 kills and four blocks for the Wolves (3-1, 1-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys.

Canoga Park d. Sylmar, 15-12, 6-15, 15-11, 15-13--Philip Mramor had 17 kills and seven blocks for the Hunters (3-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener.

Greg Damien contributed 12 kills and 10 digs for Canoga Park, while Tony Linares of Sylmar (2-2) had 19 kills and Ervin Gonzalez added 14 kills and seven blocks.

Dos Pueblos d. Buena, 15-5, 2-15, 15-9, 10-15, 15-3--Matt Prosser had 27 kills and seven blocks and Joe Callahan added 10 kills, but the Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1) fell in a Channel League match at Dos Pueblos.

GOLF

Hart 321, Newbury Park 348, Saugus 365--Junior Adrian Tan of Hart shot an even-par 61 to take medalist honors at Vista Valencia Golf Course.

Notre Dame 188, Chaminade 200--The Knights had five players score under 40 in a nine-hole Mission League match at the par-35 Porter Valley Country Club.

Freshman Tommy Barber and sophomore Anne Lee both shot 36. Ryan Erlich of Chaminade carded a 35 to take medalist honors.
