Brea Boys Rally to Win Swim Meet at Canyon

Brea Olinda came back to win the last two individual events and the 400 freestyle relay and overtook host Canyon for an 89-79 victory in nonleague boys’ swimming Wednesday.

Matt Flesher, whose winning time in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes 07.3 seconds) was a Southern Section qualifying time, also led off the winning 200 medley relay and won the 100 backstroke (1:02.51). Brea Olinda improved to 2-2.

In nonleague golf:

Brea Olinda 391, LaVerne Damian 408--Steve Bendt and Mike Ehrle each shot three-over 75 for sixth-ranked Brea Olinda (4-1) at Imperial and Mountain Meadows.

El Dorado 419, Valencia 437--Dillan DeMary was the medalist with a six-over-par 78 for Valencia (5-2) at Alta Vista and Western Hills. Corey Fox shot a 38 in the final round and an overall 81 to lead El Dorado in its first victory over Valencia in eight years.

Los Alamitos 384, Long Beach Poly 385--Medalist Brett Dolch’s combined par 71 score on Cypress and Recreation Park in Long Beach helped Los Alamitos to victory.

Santa Margarita 189, Palm Desert 208--The Eagles (3-0), top-ranked in the county, had five players shoot 39 or better on the North course at Coto de Caza. Santa Margarita’s Brad Meer shot par 36.

Savanna 203, El Modena 206--Tim O’Connell was the medalist for Savanna (4-3) and Garrett Mays was the medalist for El Modena as both shot a four-over 39 at Dad Miller.

In the Garden Grove softball tournament:

Santa Margarita 1, San Clemente 0 (6, time)--Kristen Morley singled, was sacrificed to second, stole third and scored on a throwing error in the first inning for Santa Margarita (5-1). Stephanie Swenson gave up one hit for San Clemente.

In nonleague softball:

Brethren Christian 5, Sierra Madre Maranatha 3--Jessica Echaves hit a two-run homer in Brethren Christian’s four-run second inning, and she also struck out four in relief to earn her first save for the Warriors (2-3).

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

La Quinta 3, Pacifica 2--Scott Ogilvie had 24 kills for host La Quinta (3-2, 1-0), which won, 16-14, 10-15, 6-15, 15-5, 15-6.

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Edison 3, Irvine 0--Chris Van Reusen had 14 kills and Ryan Hiskey contributed 31 assists and three blocks for Edison (2-0), which won, 15-12, 15-1, 15-9.

University 3 Trabuco Hills 1--David Lin had 26 kills and Jon Cheng had 13 for University (4-2), which won, 15-7, 6-15, 16-14, 16-14.
