Kennedy Cruises on El Camino Real

Wes Crown threw a four-hitter and David Lusk had two hits, including his second home run of the season, to power Kennedy High to a 7-1 victory over El Camino Real in a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game Thursday at Kennedy.

Crown (2-0) struck out five and walked two for the Golden Cougars (5-2, 2-0 in conference play), two-time defending City Section 4-A Division champions.

Lusk drove in three runs, including two on his home run in the fifth inning.

Jon Garland, who drove in two runs, and Adrian Perez, who scored three runs, each had two hits for the Golden Cougars.

The loss dropped El Camino Real dropped to 3-4 and 0-2.

Cleveland 3, Birmingham 0--Mike Schultz (1-1) scattered eight hits for the Cavaliers (4-3, 2-0), striking out six in a Northeast Valley Conference game at Cleveland.

Schultz had two hits, Jared Mills had a run-scoring triple and sophomore Tony Cicero had two hits, including a run-scoring double.

Chatsworth 7, Granada Hills 2--Greg Wold had two hits--including a triple--and two RBIs and picked up his second save of the season for the Chancellors in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.

Wold gave up one run and two hits over 3 1/3 innings after relieving starter Ismael Marin (2-0).

Tim Weigand had two hits and scored three runs for the Chancellors (4-3, 2-0).

Josh Hamilton had a run-scoring double in the seventh for Granada Hills (3-4, 0-2).

Poly 2, Canoga Park 0--Mike Preski pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Parrots (2-5, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Gabe Gomez and Sal Trujillo drove in runs with consecutive doubles in the third for Poly.

Kevin Carlsen pitched a six-hitter for Canoga Park (1-6, 0-2).

Reseda 15, Grant 3--Alfredo Saenez hit two home runs and a double, drove in five runs and scored five for the Regents (3-1, 1-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant (3-5, 1-1).

Sylmar 16, Van Nuys 1--Miguel Flores drove in the three runs and Jesse Cortez added a double and a triple for the Spartans (4-3, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys (0-2, 0-2).

Verdugo Hills 2, Lincoln 1--Sophomore Ian Carson threw a three-hitter with six strikeouts in his first varsity start for the Dons (2-1, 1-1) in a Northern Conference game at Verdugo Hills.

James Stevenson had three hits and two RBIs for Verdugo Hills.

Faith Baptist 12, Riverside Christian 0--Steve Plise pitched a no-hitter for the Contenders (2-1), striking out 15--including the final eight--and walking one at Riverside Christian (4-1).

Plise had three hits, including a double and a triple.

Hueneme 3, Oak Park 2--Victor Navarro hit a two-run single in the seventh for the Vikings (5-2) at Oak Park.

Lee Lewis picked up his fourth victory in relief.
