La Reina Brings Hart Back to Earth

Danielle Field pitched a one-hitter and La Reina High defeated previously unbeaten Hart, the area’s top-ranked team, 5-0, Tuesday at La Reina.

MacKenzie Vandergeest supplied the Regents (5-4-1) with all the offense they needed, hitting a grand slam in the second inning.

Field (3-2-1) struck out four and walked one, and allowed only a third-inning infield single by Danni Socha. She faced one batter over the minimum.

Freshman Amanda Fortune (7-1), who has all of the Indians’ decisions, was pulled in the sixth inning.

Hoover 3, Paramount 0--Cori Herbert pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts and had two doubles for the Tornadoes (6-3) at Hoover.

Sira Diaz and Carla Nanne each had two hits with a double and an RBI for Hoover.

L.A. Baptist 19, Carpinteria 0--Kristin Shaw had two triples, a double and three RBIs for the Knights (5-1) at L.A. Baptist.

Oxnard 3, Ventura 2--Anissa Velasquez hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning for the Yellowjackets (4-2, 1-1) in a Channel League game at Ventura.

The Cougars (1-6, 0-2) made it close in the seventh when Camille Minkel tripled home Marisa Ferguson and Minkel scored on a single by Heather Clark.

Alemany 2, Highland 1--Regina Yuhasz singled, stole second and scored on Meghann Reiss’ double in the bottom of the eighth for the Indians (9-3) at Sylmar Independent Baseball League Park.

Royal 6, Channel Islands 0--Stephanie Thomas (1-2) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 for the Highlanders in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.

April Vaughn had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs for Royal (5-6, 1-2).

Buena 7, San Marcos 3--Kris Herman had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, and Jamie Valentine scored two runs for the Bulldogs (5-3-1, 2-0) in a Channel League game at Buena.

Rio Mesa 10, Santa Barbara 0--Rhianna Rogers had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs for the Spartans in a Channel League game at Santa Barbara. Marcella Ramirez (4-0) pitched a three-hitter for Rio Mesa (6-0, 2-0).
