Arson Blamed in Building Fire

Share

Small fires kept firefighters busy throughout the day Wednesday, but no one was injured.

In Oxnard, firefighters determined that arson caused a storage building at Orange Drive and Ventura Boulevard to burn.

The building, located in an area packed with bungalows where nearly 300 people live, was used as a storage shed for items such as stoves, mattresses and tables.

Officials determined that the arsonist started fires on each side of the building. Damage was estimated at $3,000.

Authorities fear their investigation will be hampered by a lack of cooperation from witnesses.

“It was broad daylight and there were lots of people there, lots of children running around, but nobody saw anything and nobody heard anything. It just happened,” said Capt. Louis Beltran.

In Hidden Valley, a barn used to store hay at Sandstone Ranch caught fire, keeping county firefighters busy for nearly two hours.

No people or animals were injured.
