Daigneault Streak Followed Suspension

Share

Since returning from his 10-game NHL suspension, J.J. Daigneault had at least one point in every game until Wednesday, with two goals and nine points over seven games.

That seven-game point streak is the longest by a defenseman in team history.

It was only coincidence that referee Don Koharski called Wednesday’s game against the Sharks, his first assignment on a Duck game since Feb. 23, when Daigneault was thrown out of the game for swinging his stick at Koharski. The incident lead to Daigneault’s suspension for “abuse of official,” even though Daigneault insisted he never meant to hit the referee.

After Tuesday’s 3-3 tie against Chicago, the Ducks are 3-0-12 in overtime games and one of only two NHL teams that haven’t lost in overtime this season. The New York Rangers (3-0-10) also have not lost. . . . The Ducks are close to signing center Matt Cullen, a St. Cloud State sophomore who was their second-round pick last June. They plan to assign him to minor-league affiliate Baltimore for the final few games of the American Hockey League season, and he’s expected to start next season in the minors as well.
