Kingsmen Name Defensive Coach

Jud Keim, secondary and special teams coach for the Cal Lutheran football team last season, has been named the Kingsmen’s defensive coordinator by Coach Scott Squires.

Keim, 33, replaces Bryan Marmion, who left to become head coach at Texas Lutheran.

In another move, offensive line coach Ben McEnroe will also serve as the team’s recruiting coordinator.

New Longhorn: Montclair Prep senior Tamra Freedman has committed to attend Texas on a softball scholarship.

Freedman is tied for second on the Southern Section all-time list for home runs in a season with 13 in 1994, and is tied for the record with four homers in a game.

She has 25 career home runs. The Southern Section record is 28 set by Jenny Dalton of Glendale from 1990-92.

Freedman has one home run and is batting .421 this season.

Ex-coach dies: Steve Nentrup, 49, a longtime baseball coach at Thousand Oaks High and Cal Lutheran, died in his sleep early Sunday.

Nentrup, 49, served as a varsity assistant and a junior varsity coach for most of his career. He was head varsity coach in 1981.
