Frank Torre, the brother of Yankee Manager Joe Torre, is back in the hospital.

Torre, 65, was admitted Saturday to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of a viral infection, the hospital said. He had a heart transplant at the hospital last fall.

The infection, which is common among heart-transplant patients, is affecting his urinary tract, according to information supplied by Torre’s doctors through the hospital’s public-relations department.

He is expected to be released this weekend.

Texas Ranger first baseman Will Clark was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 29, because of a sprained and bruised bone in his left wrist and a non-displaced fracture of his middle finger.

Clark sprained the wrist Friday when he fell over a bullpen mound while chasing a foul ball during an exhibition game.

Lee Stevens started at first base for the injured Clark in Texas’ season-opening 6-2 victory over Milwaukee on Tuesday and hit a three-run homer. It was the first opener Clark has missed in his 12-year career.

The State Department has denied the Baltimore Orioles’ request to play an exhibition game in Cuba, saying the request was out of line with U.S. policy regarding the Communist nation.

U.S. law does not forbid Americans from traveling to Cuba but the Trading with the Enemy Act makes it illegal for Americans to spend money there.
